Juvéderm
What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm® is a brand of injectable dermal fillers made from a hyaluronic acid-based gel, used to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and restore a more youthful appearance to the face. The gel is designed to blend with the skin's natural tissue and can be used for various purposes, such as plumping lips, contouring the chin and jawline, and reducing the appearance of facial lines and folds.
How does Juvéderm work?
Juvéderm products are primarily made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar in the body that helps with hydration and volume. Common uses include:
Face: Smoothing smile lines, nasolabial folds, and other facial wrinkles.
Chin and Jawline: Adding volume to contour, shape, and define the chin and jawline.
Cheeks and Temples: Restoring lost volume for lift and contour in the cheeks and temples.
Undereyes: Improving the appearance of undereye hollows.
The injection process
After numbing the area effectively with ice, the filler is injected into the skin with a fine needle to add volume and smooth lines. Juvéderm XC products also contain lidocaine to help with comfort during the injection.
You can expect to be in and out of the office without downtime. You may see a marked improvement in wrinkles and folds immediately. Most patients experience some degree of swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. Final results are typically seen in one week and generally last 12-18 months depending on the particular Juvéderm product.
Risks & Complications
While rare, potential risks include serious complications if the filler is accidentally injected into a blood vessel, which can lead to vision abnormalities, blindness, or stroke. It is important to discuss these risks with a healthcare practitioner before treatment.
Juvéderm® is contraindicated for patients with a history of allergies to Juvéderm fillers, although this is very rare and no allergy testing is required before use.
After your treatment with Juvéderm, you may have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness.
